History of Paul Robert Duijnstee and Info Foodlabels
At the end of 1999, I was approached to help develop a labeling system based on the existing HACCP rules and regulations.
As a chef, we were dissatisfied with the only available system, Label Lord. It was too expensive and cumbersome to use, as it consisted of more than 10 stickers. We created a step-by-step plan with clear requirements. The stickers had to be user-friendly, suitable for the food industry, and applicable in all kitchens. Moreover, since we saw ourselves as colleagues, the stickers needed to be fairly priced.
To achieve this, we decided to involve chefs and teachers from hospitality schools and related programs in the development and testing of our stickers. This way, students would already be trained in using them during their education and could carry this knowledge into their internships or workplaces.
In 2001, we launched Info Food Stickers, a box containing five rolls of stickers, each with a different frame colour for a specific food group and its handling rules. This turned out to be a great success: not only were we 50% cheaper than the competition, but our stickers were also of higher quality, with adhesive and paper that could withstand temperatures from -18°C to +60°C, remained resistant to condensation, and could still be written on after a freezing period. Within two years, our stickers were sold in all wholesale markets, and we were exporting pallets full to Belgium, France, and Denmark.
In 2005, I realized that we could represent the six food group colours on a single label. This meant that only one label was needed in the kitchen instead of ten. By designing an educational sequence with pictograms instead of text, the Productionabel4all was born. Because there were no text or handling rules on the labels, they could be used in any kitchen and worldwide. Eureka!
Now, after 25 years, we have developed a 3.0 label, ‘Info Foodlabels,’ which is unique and unparalleled in its adhesive properties. It dissolves at +60°C, can be removed cold, and has lasting adhesion in freezing conditions down to -40°C. We have also equipped thermal labels with our special adhesive and paper, making them suitable for all printers. Our products are made from environmentally friendly and recyclable materials. They are applicable for dry storage, refrigerators, freezers, and vacuum bags. Naturally, they were developed and tested by chefs and educators.
For the past fifteen years, my daughter Michelle has been closely involved, and with her extensive experience and background in hospitality, she is the designated successor. As I prepare for my retirement, Michelle continues to take over the daily management. Of course, I remain available for advice and support to ensure that Info Foodlabels continues to innovate and maintain the high quality for which we are known.
